The Sri Lankan Bolton Community UK is seeking a dedicated and qualified male Imam & Community Engagement Officer for the Darul Ilm Learning Centre to lead religious services and strengthen community relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily prayers and deliver sermons during Jumu’ah (Friday prayers) and other religious events
- Provide spiritual guidance and counselling to community members.
- Conduct religious ceremonies, including weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies.
- Teach Quranic and Islamic studies to individuals of all ages.
- Engage with the local community through outreach programs and interfaith events.
- Organise and participate in youth activities, workshops, and cultural events to promote community development.
- Collaborate with the Executive Committee to support the centre’s mission and ensure community needs are met.
Essential Qualifications:
- A recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Islamic Studies (including Hafiz and Alim qualifications).
- Fluency in English, Tamil, and Sinhala, with proficiency in Arabic.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of the Shafi’i school of Islamic jurisprudence.
- Experience in community engagement and outreach.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, particularly with the Sri Lankan Muslim community.
- IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
